Summary:
Stiles has so much faith that he winds up with powers of a cleric
Read lots of fics with Stiles being mostly non-religious if it's even mentioned. Thought about going the other extreme where he essentially has so much faith in whatever deity he follows that he winds up with the power of a cleric
Unfortunately, the comment thread I had for this with someone was deleted when the original post was so I've lost some really good ideas (hopefully teh original commentor will see this and help out again). Essentially there's a Japanese fox goddess he winds up finding as a kid and he gets really into the whole worshiping thing with dad helping him get whatever he needs for his ceremonies as he sees it helping his son cope after his mother's death. Fast forward a few years, he's asking for sake for one of the ceremonies while they're out shopping or something, and dad just agrees and some bystander gets all huffy and upset about him buying alcohol for a minor and him the sheriff!!! He points out that he *is* the sheriff, he's not an idiot, his kid's not drinking the stuff, and if he was he certainly wouldn't be asking him to buy it lol. As things start going crazy after the werewolves show up, things start magically going right whenever Stiles is in a tough spot and prays for help.
Update 4/5/20: I found the comment string in my email!!
Me:Don't know who Inari is, but would be funny if it wasn't what was typically considered a "good" god
Most_Likely_Satan responded:
Inari Ōkami is a fox god, which would just be so fucking funny honestly. They're the goddess of foxes, of fertility, rice, tea and sake, of agriculture and industry, of general prosperity and worldly success, and one of the principal kami of Shinto... At least according to Wikipedia, and a few things I've picked up from various forgotten anime...
Me: lol nice, also just being able to have him say "no, dad, seriously, i need you to go buy me some sake for an offering. just trust me."
Most_Likely_Satan responded:
I'd love to see the Sherriff's "He's my son and I love him, but he wouldn't ask me if he wanted alcohol" moment
Me: lmao some concerned parent nearby all offended and "you're the sheriff and you're buying your son alcohol?!?!! how dare ?!?!?!"
Most_Likely_Satan responded:
Gods how would you even explain that??? I mean, I guess you could say it's for a new recipe or smth, but seriously, I'd love to see the sheriff just "I know what I'm doing son" look at said concern parent, cause he's had Stiles questioning every decision he's ever made since the kid was like five, he's definitely learned how to "I know better than you" look by now lmao
Me: lol omg. i kinda totally want to see this story from dad's pov now, like him watching his kid getting really into his faith (even if it's not in some "normal" religion, or maybe especially because it's not), and then helping him figure out his path and what he'd need to do offerings and observe any important days, and then watching as sometimes good things just kind of *happen* around stiles after a couple of years have gone by, and then when werewolves are a thing there's actually like *talking* because stiles isn't sure how a fox goddess is going to handle him hanging with wolves, and oh yeah, he's getting a funny feeling from this one area of the preserve, and then miracles and yeah...
Most_Likely_Satan responded:
That sounds soooooooo freaking awesome, I wonder how BH responds though, I bet it's probably still "Look, if you don't make direct eye contact with the weird stuff, the weird stuff doesn't exist and you can totally stay away" thing that they HAD to have been doing in canon
